My friend from Sweden had terrible things to say about Sweden and she would never move back.

Awesome, thanks Karpo....Appreciate the input. From what my friends over their say, is you make less than CA, but at the end of the day you have more left in your pocket. Hehehe. I have been to Texas quite a few times, both on roadtrips and working. I worked on a TV show shooting in Stephenville for about 12 weeks a few years ago. I have nothing bad to say about Texas. Quite the opposite. Everything that is **** in California, is better in Texas.

That is just my POV, and if you have other point of views, that is ok. I am not here to debate that though

You’re going to want to keep an eye on the bike, as you’ll likely be street parking for a while until you get established. TX bike rate thefts are out of this world.

Most of the stuff you’re probably going to find initially is paid by job, and if you want to go freelance - there’s jobs absolutely everywhere, and TX does not require a GC license to bid and perform your own work.
I appreciate that heads up, Yeah my car is a POS, and I'm not to concerned about it, my bike however is my baby As far as locations? Any suggestions. I love the zilker and barton creek area, but I also know that those are expensive areas. How about East Austin? I think I prefer south of the river, or east austin.

However, that is just instinct, not really knowing anything about the city.

Would love to be able to bike or fairly easy get to the downtown area.

It has its positives and negatives just like anywhere else. It's been decades since I lived there, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

My name is Stefan. I am from Sweden, born and bred, but live in California since many years.

I am a lifelong carpenter, and for the last 10 years a local 44 union propmaker in the film industry out here. Anyways, I am moving to Austin, for all the typical reasons...Don't worry, I am not bringing California with me...Remember, I'm Swedish...haha.

I am trying to get a read on the job potentials out there, and hope to connect with people. I also of course looking to rent an apartment, suggestions for areas etc would be appreciated.

I am currently looking for the zilker area, east Austin, South congress etc...

I aldo would love to connect with either contractors, people that might have info, job potentials in the construction area. I have done lots of framing, finish and also some furniture making.

Propmaker is basically just a fancier word for carpenter also btw...

I also would like to get in contact with union propmakers over there.

I have 2 friends out there, 1 lives in East Austin and the other one in Bastrop.

I spent some time out there last summer and loved it, heat and all...lol

My hobbies include music (life long guitar player), mountain biking, and I am looking forward to go swim in all easy acessible swimming holes you guys have out there.

Thanks guy, looking forward to meet some people on here.

Stefan
