I am sorry that you have such rude neighbors. I certainly agree with Megan and Shaxs- it is this type of dog owner that makes the rest of the well behaved dogs get a bad rap. If the electronic items even work- would the device need to be within a close range to the dog? This might sound extreme, but when I buy/build my next home, I may consider actually going to the neighbors to 'interview' them! Also, finding a home in the $150000 range might be a problem- I wonder if homes in this range would have 'lesser quality' type of people living in them. It shouldn't matter if it is a $50 house or a million dollar house- people should have manners- something that seems to be lacking nowadays.....Sorry I have no solution.

My house was in the 150k range, and I really don't consider myself a lesser quality type person. We just don't necessarily need that much house. Actually, tons of homes that aren't in Central Austin cost around that much, and I'm not going to call any of those people lesser quality. And yes, you're right about money having nothing to do with common courtesy or manners.

I adopted a dog who's owner had to use one of the noise things. It worked for awhile until she got used to it. Shes now purely an inside dog since we live in a town home. She also gets attention now, so she doesn't bark.

As for the hose comment, I think she would love the hose. However, If a neighbor of mine used a high pressure hose over the fence on my dog, I would be pretty pissed.

I admit, I have used the hose on my neighbors dogs. The neighbors were out of town and had friends taking care of the dogs, but the dogs were outside and alone more than usual, so they barked most of the night (it seemed). It took about 4 times for the dog to associate the water spray and the barking, and then he just 'wuffed' a little. Seriously, though, if the neighbors were home, we wouldn't have had to do that (they would have stopped them), and the water does not harm the dogs at all. If it was my dog and I was not home (or it was the middle of the night), have at it .

Many years ago, we had a dog that was 'annoying' a neighbor, and he called the police. The police said that ~45 minutes of non-stop barking during the day was considered a nuisance. Our dog was inside at night, so we didn't get any 'guidlines' on that. To make a long story short, we videotaped our dog during the day from an upstairs bedroom and found she barked about 5 minutes at a time 2 or 3 times a day (deliveries, meter guy, etc) EXCEPT when the complaining neighbor stood beside the fence and tormented the dog...turns out, he was trying to get other neighbors to complain (after making the dog bark a while, he would go door to door trying to solicit complaints!). Since we had him on tape doing this on several occasions, he quietly went away. We ended up filing a police report, just in case the dog got poisoned or something.

Okay, there are exceptions as I would be okay with that. Up above they said 'high pressure water hose' which I still would not be thrilled with. I imagine a power washer when that is said.
