Yeah, leave it there.
I would check with the dept. of motor vehicles licensing and registration (Travis County if you're moving to Austin; Williamson county if you're moving to Round Rock, Cedar Park, or Leander). They should be able to help you out. Here ya go!

About that casino thing. I too am from the dayton area well centerville. You will drive three to five hours to get to a casino here and they are not like the casinos in indiana. With that said if you really depend on the casinos you might think about Dallas. Tell me what area of Dayton are you coming from? Also do you and your wife already have jobs here? I happen to know the area you are coming from and the area you are moving too. If I can help just private message me. My family and I have been all over Austin, Houston, Dallas and Dayton.

I am still in the process of importing the car from Canada. There is a series of hoops you have to jump through.
Is the car being driven down, or transported down?
1) Contact your manufacturer (customer service) to get a letter of compliance for US safety laws.
2) Find the car importation form on line and fill it out. I cannot remember the exact link, but you can search for it on the US Customs site. CPD.GOV
Once you get to Texas you have 30 days to switch everything over.
3) Arrange insurance. You need to provide proof on insurance and I am not sure your Canadian based insurance will do.
4) Get a safety inspection done. If you are in Travis county this includes emissions.
5) Register the car at the tax office of the country you will be living in.
6) Go to the license bureau to get your driver's license. Unlike Canada, plates and driver's license are not done in the same place.
There are a whole bunch of other surprises waiting for you once you arrive. I wish we had been better informed about some of them.
