I have seen some HUGE water moccasins on the San Marcos river...big around as my arm and probably 4' long, but hard to tell when they are not straight and you are staring right at that big ol' head . They have never actually been aggressive, although they will 'hiss' (with a wide-open white mouth, hence the 'cotton mouth'). Supposedly, they have dropped from bushes into boats, but I have heard they are probably trying to drop to the water and get away, and the boats slide in at a REALLY bad time....sort of like armadillos, that 'hop' straight up to avoid predators - problem is, doesn't work well for cars .

My God, can you imagine one dropping on you while tubing, from a tree...
and that hiss sound.....man!

I don't think bugs, or even "teams" of bugs care or know what country or city they're in.
