I've been doing searches, and I only find places in Austin proper. I just moved here from San Diego, and my girlfriend and I are thinking about adopting a dog. I don't want to get a dog, since we are in an apartment, if there isn't somewhere decently close to take them to get some exercise and off leash exploring.

Any help would be appreciated!

The closest one is Devine Lake Park in the North Creek Subdivision in Leander off 2243 and Bagdad Rd. It's not fenced, but seceluded and the dogs can swim in the lake!

Though not listed as a "dog park", the Divine Lake Park in the Northcreek subdivision in Leander has a man-made lake, a playground and also an off-leash area for dogs to romp. I take my boxer pup there frequently because we live within walking distance, but they also have a large parking lot for those folks who do not live in the neighborhood. No entry fees either!

When researching dog parks in the greater Austin area, you may want to ensure that the dog park in question is not merely an "off lease" setup instead of a fully fenced dog park. DH and I take our Greyhound Annabel to the Round Rock Dog Park. It is a lovely park that is fully fenced with lots of fun stuff for your canine companion to do. Also, the park has two areas; one for big dogs and one for little dogs.

Our retired Greyhound can never ever go off leash because if she sees a critter, she would be gone in a 40mph burst of speed never to be seen again.
