Hi all,

I just closed on a house in River Place (yay?), but TWC won't be able to get install cable/internet until next Saturday. To hold off the shakes from internet withdrawal, I'm looking for suggestions for nearby public wifi spots where I can get fill my internet addiction needs. The nearest Austin Public Library that I can find is the Old Quarry branch, which isn't all that close. Any other suggestions, preferably ones where nobody would mind me setting up shop for hours at a time (yeah, the addiction is that bad - I'll make the excuse that my family has not yet moved to town, awaiting the sale of our other house, so it's a way to keep me out of trouble ).

I suppose if worse comes to worse, I could wardrive around RP, but some folks don't like wifi free-riders.

Thanks!

If you have a laptop or Ipod touch, you might first just drive over to your new place and see if one of your neighbors has an unencrypted access point. There are skads of them all over town.

I checked last night from the house. Apparently our new neighbors are either tech-savvy and security-conscious (not transmitting their SSID) or not wifi-enabled (), since I only saw one wi-fi network and it was WPA-enabled. So no free-riding for me!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm online now from the Old Quarry library branch, which seemed to be the closest branch to RP. I'll give some of the ones mentioned in this thread a try throughout the rest of the week.
