I'm not single, but I'm a mom of a 3-year-old boy. We've been out here a year, and I don't know if I'm just a loser, but I find it hard to make friends here. We're in Pflugerville. I did join a moms group on-line, but can't ever make it to their playdates since they always meet during the week when I'm working. Feel free to send me a message!

Everyone who is posting info in this forum about ages and details of your children, please be aware of something: It is easy to feel as though you are only posting to a few people who reoply back, and to forget that there are hundreds of people reading these threads who never post at all. It is impossible for any board to prevent predators from cruising the threads.

Just please be conscious of this and try to keep personal location and children's ages and descriptions in private messaging between yourselves and people you can identify.

City-Data "groups" include a supposedly Christian group that has been posting images of "needy" children and posting locations and life details about them. The leader of that group also runs a closed adult group.

This is all perfectly legal and very hard for City-Data to control since there is no sexual suggestiveness in the images and the children's pictures have been provided by a child-charity org, which is common practice in fundraising appeals, but the groupleader has specifically appealed to adults who are looking to be connected to children, therfore that group leader is attracting online predators.

I have asked City-Data to remove the group, but they choose to believe the group is only doing what it claims to be doing, which is encouraging child-sponsorship charities. That is their judgement call.

Please be fully aware that when you post in any online forum, pedophiles are indeed cruising and gravitating to threads about families and children in the hopes to find an access point. Advertsing for a babysitter is a prime example of the type of title they jump on.

Pedophiles for the most part don't look like undesirable people. They are often gentle-spoken, well-educated, and disarming. For one thing, since they are adults who are attracted to children on a sexually "equal" level, they are often child-like, themselves.

It goes against everything we instinctively feel about "threats" to identify a gentle, sometimes pious, childlike adult as a "threat", but such people can be predators who are not gentle when they are alone with children.

Hi, I do have a child sponsorship social group which was designed as a place for child sponsors (not predators) to share their sponsorship experiences. I don't know of any others on City Data so I guess you are referring to this group. I sponsor through legitimate child sponsorship agencies/charities such as Compassion, Children International, Christian Children's Fund and some of these agencies also have writing buddy programs for those who would like to encourage the children if their sponsors are unable to write to them. I also belong to writing groups which write to children in needy countries to encourage them. There is nothing sexual about it. All are legitimate and well known and the addresses of the children and sponsors are protected. The group is not designed to look for adults who are seeking to be connected to children in any abnormal way. I do not have any closed adult groups and I never have. It might be wise to check with the group owner first before making suggestions which are not true. Thanks and God bless.
