So one of the other threads started to run off topic and one of the most recent posts asked about wineries in the Austin area. I thought it might be a good time to start a thread on such so some members wouldn't get miffed about reading through off topic threads

About eight years ago we visited the Messina Hoff winery about 90 miles out of town. It was lovely and the vinters are a couple of real characters. To read about the winery see Welcome to Messina Hof Winery - Texas Vineyards

I believe it is March or April, but every year for last several years, the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival showcases over fifty regional wineries. We went in 2000 and hope to go again in 2009. One of the most enjoyable events was hopping on a big air conditioned bus with several friends and winding through the hill country to one of the wineries, where we enjoyed a four or five course lunch each accompanied by a local wine. I highly recommend the Food and wine festival if you are new to town!
