I am a May 08 college grad with an EC-4 Texas certificate. How difficult will it be for me to get a job with one of the school districts around Austin. I've made online applications with all of them, but I can't seem to get my foot in the door with any type of personal interview. Do the schools in Austin not hire new teachers, and when can I maybe expect to hear back from someone?

You'll have to contact each school that has openings. Fax and/or email your resume and call. Do not wait for them to contact you, or you will never get hired.

Hi! I will be a third year teacher, but just moved to Austin. The last person to write you was right, you have to do A LOT of the work when getting a job here. The website says mail or fax your resume and cover letter to each school you see an opening for. But, I have mailed up to 40 letters to 40 different schools and after nothing, started faxing them, I finally got one email yesterday after I faxed my info over wanting to interview me. Now, I am going to walk into each school (hopefully they are open in July...I think they may all be on vacation) and hand my info in person, and probably fax it in too, and probably call too. Its an exhausting operation they have here, because you don't do a district interview and then they set up the jobs for you, like my last district. So, keep checking all the openings and good luck!
