I suppose it is possible that there may be one or two southeast of town (Bastrop or further) on the Colorado, but it is unlikely that you will every see one in Austin.......they are quite common on the rivers when you are down to a few miles from the coast.

I'm glad you asked, because that truly was the question that popped in my head when I first saw all the people on tubes on the rivers in San Marcos & New Braunfels. Having an alligator chew your butt while floating down the river would be a bad way to go...

The only 'gators you're going to see are "road gators", i.e. tractor-trailer retreads which have been thrown off.

Oh, and these are more common the warmer it gets.

Speaking of warm...I love how the 'normal' number of 100F degree days is 12 for the Austin-area. We're at what, now, 18...and it's still June....

Erk.

This was one of the top five reasons we left Vegas, it's not 100+F every day of the summer. At least the food here is good and people are friendly.

You can rent tubes with bottoms in them!

I'm not sure a tube with a bottom would stop one of those 20' gators I hear about all the time on the river.

LOL
