We were trying to dig a hole to plant a tree in our front yard and saw a 2 inch PVC sch40 about 18 inch under ground in the direction from the water meter to our house. We also saw another smaller pipe, about 3/4 inch, and buried just only 4 inch deep. I'm sure this smaller pipe is for sprinkler. And guess the bigger pipe should be for the tap water to the house.

Is it in code in Austin, Texas or safe to use PVC pipe to connect the tap water to our house ?

It meets the International Residential Construction code. And that is what is currently adopted in Austin.

Thanks car957 for the info.

I read some where that California only permit a limited use of CPVC to bring drinking water to residences, not PVC. The big pipe in my front yard has white color like the sprinkler pipe and i can read "PVC sch 40".
