I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about, sorry. I'm paying 10.2 cents a kilowatt while renters in my Austin home are paying close to 18 cents a kilowatt from the City of Austin. It's cheaper withe Pedernales Electric because it's a Co-OP from what I understand. If you want higher electric bills, move out of Cedar Park. I'm happy as can be that my electric bills have been so reasonable compared to friends in Austin.

i'm paying .11 , but I like to know why my bill is over 240.00 and our ac is set at 83.

I think I need to get someone out here to look at it. I think I am paying someone else bill then....

We even don't use the upstairs AC right now.

We have all energy light bulbs in the house.
Changed out our old school washer for a front loader.

Also the rep from PEC said another increase will happen in Oct '08'

No. Austin Energy is 7.2 cents per kWh for the first 500 kWh, then 11.37 cents per KWh after that. In the winter, it is a little less.

See: Residential (http://www.austinenergy.com/About%20Us/Rates/residential.htm - broken link)

Add the fuel charge and energy rate for the kWh rate. Both PEC and Austin Energy have a consumer junk charge (either "Energy Availability Charge" or "Customer Charge", but PEC's is something like $20 and Austin Energy's is $6.)

What it comes down to is this; As a Cedar Park resident, I do-not have the choice of selecting which Electric company to go with. Unlike Round Rock, they have several to choose from. Here in CP it is P.E.C or NADDA. So they can Monopoly it for now!!

It's probably because you have an older AC system with a lower Seer rating. We keep our 2 story house on 72 all the time and our last bill was $286, and the one before that was $144. My in-laws in Austin have a smaller one story house and their electric bill was $414!!! I'm fine with them raising the price in October when it starts cooling down here.

Mike,

At $240, minus the extra charges you are looking at about $220 / .10678 (per kWh) ... so about 2060 kWh per month. Depending on the size of the house, gas or electric water heating, pool, # a/c units, how often you dry clothes... that's not too bad for July.

You should look into one of these: Power Cost Monitor - power meter monitoring product

With it, you can see what your monthly bill will be at any time, plus you can see what "phantom power" you may be using (appliances/etc that use power when they are turned off). It's supposed to cut up to 20% from your electric bill just by showing you how much you are using & identifying where it's coming from. Can't say that I've seen a 20% drop, but it certainly is a cool gadget. I was able to notice a small difference in the electricity my A/C was drawing when I did things like take out the filter, clear out and shade the compressor, add insulation, etc..
