Any recommendations for buffet-style food in Austin? Not necessarily looking for huge quantity but quality and good choice.

We have a big family with extra guests staying and it is sooo much easier to let everyone go and get their own food! Especially the teens & kids

Not Ryan's or that kind of thing tho, something more interesting....? Heard Clay Pot was good?

Thanks!!

If y'all like Chinese/Vietnamese, the Sea Dragon, on the south side of 183 just across from where the well-known Sunflower is located, has great buffet Asian food. It's in the same strip-mall where there used to be an Albertsons, I think, but it's being remade into something new.

Sorry I don't have an address, or more exact location...the area under the 183 overhead just throws me for where things are actually located.

I like Cannoli Joe's if you're in the mood for Italian food and really hungry. They have a pretty good selection. Kids under 12 are $6 and adults on the weekends are $13 for lunch and $16 for dinner.

I avoid most of the Chinese buffets b/c of their sorry restaurant inspection scores. China Buffet and China Harbor have each scored at 47 at one point.

I second the recommendation of Cannoli Joe's.

In addition to the food being good, the theming is really nice.

For those with a bit more exotic tastes, the Bombay Bistro is a good choice

I've tried Canoli Joe's twice, and been disappointed both times. I know, once should have sealed the deal, but I thought I owed them another shot to see if they'd gotten better.

I can only sum it up thusly:

I had no idea you could make Italian food bland.

The desserts are good, though - especially the Frangelico Bread Pudding.

I really, REALLY wanted to like Canoli Joe's, too.

thanks for that too - buffets unfortunately are often bad, that's why I'm asking for advice on the good ones. Good to know which ones are definitely to be avoided too
