Well, I've been comparing prices and State Farm looks like the least expensive BY FAR for the most $$ insured (although, during the quote, they let me pick a higher deductable and the others didn't). And, sorry twange, Liberty Mutual looks like the MOST expensive. I looked at Allstate, Geiko, Liberty Mutual, & State Farm.

Thanks, maybe we'll investigate a bit. I know we have some other provisions in our policy that jacked it up a bit. My wife is the insurance guru around here...I'm the tech guy

I'm the tech guy (well, chick) in our house as well. And apparently I'm the insurance guru too!

Mr. Pibb (my husband) handles all the heavy lifting. And the cat box (thank god).

We USED to squabble over the cat box, until I reminded him that if I ever got pregnant, we could have a two-headed baby if I went anywhere near cat litter.

And by golly it worked!

I'm still in charge (and somehow to blame, heh) when our internet or wireless connection goes out, though. Sigh. I still get the better end of the deal BY FAR!

Also, in regards to State Farm, I don't know if they are the cheapest after all. I got a phone call in regards to my quote and they said that it was "actually" about $10 more a month than the quote because I don't have car insurance with them. Even though I'd already stated that I didn't have it on the quote form. I didn't get to question the guy further about this (isn't bait & switch illegal?) because I had an appointment and I could hardly understand him due to cell phone interference.

I believe bait and switch is illegal. However I do have car insurance with State Farm and my homeowners is cheaper with them because of having the car insurance.

I have been with my same State Farm agent for 18+ years and would never change. I started out with renters insurance and car ins. in college and four years later right after graduation I was living in Houston and was hit by a tornado. Lost over half of my belongings as the roof was ripped off. The tornado hit on a Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at 9:30am when I came back to the apartment to see what I could salvage a State Farm claim specialist was in the parking lot waiting for me. He cut me a check for $2000.00 on the spot as I was right out of college and broke. I was able to secure a new apt. with the money and then start looking at what else was missing/destroyed and within a month the claim was paid. Been in two hail storms and checks were cut on the spot for the damage and the checks were for about $100-$200 more than the actual work.
I have also had my car broken into and State Farm was great about replacing my wife's designer sunglasses and DVD system for the kiddos.
For all the services I believe State Farm is superior. I had Allstate for one year before I went with State Farm (granted that was 18 years ago) but I was really unhappy with them. I was hit by an uninsured and it took several months to get Allstate to pay to fix my car, and they wouldn't pay for some of the damage. These are just my experiences. Good Luck.

Back in my renting days, I used Nationwide. I also had my car insurance with them. They were pretty cheap.

Try getting quotes for renters and renters + auto. A lot of places give you a discount if you have both with them. So, you just may end up saving money on your car insurance as well if you switch.

If you're moving you should check if the new landlord has a specific requirement
for renter's insurance before getting policy quotes. My apartment complex,
managed by Mid-America Apartment Communities, now requires proof of
renter's insurance with $100,000 personal liability coverage with new leases.

Yea, $100,000 personal liability is pretty standard these days and really is important in our sue-happy society
