Apparently i need something that has my ss# on it. According to the dps website, that could have been a health-care card.

Hey atlanta hope, if your husband doesn't have a passport, he'll have to use a birth certificate plus his ss card. God forbid you lose your ss card!!!

I think i'm going to have to order a new one since i haven't seen mine since i moved. I met a guy the other day who said he still had his ca license even though he'd be living here for 2 years. Now i know why!

[quote=maadimom;5483238]You have to surrender you license in every state to receive one for that state. It is illegal to carry more than one license. I have a friend who found that out the hard way. It's just one of the pains of changing states.

I think the frustrating thing for us was the fact that all the other states we lived in would hand you a new drivers license on that day - not sent in the mail : )

I moved here 9 years ago. All I had to do was bring in my CA DL.

The reason it is so difficult is because y'all have California licenses....

Really? I've gotten licenses in Massachusetts & California and both states mail you your license. They give you a temporarary print-out, though, that's supposed to be the same thing as a license.

Paying for a 5 yr? That must be new. I renewed my TX license a yr or 2 ago and it expires in 2013. I didn't pay extra. And you can renew online (watch the deadline)--good if you want to look 10 yrs younger on your license

I cried when they took away my CA license. That was 10 years ago and I didn't really want to live here. But now I like that they just let me know I need to renew and I can do it online. I think I've only renewed once since we moved here. I had to get a new one recently because of address change, but it's very easy.

When I moved to Delaware I just had to give them my stupid TDL -- no social security card, etc. Texas bureaucracy is out of control.

You think this is bad? In Nevada, to get a seasonal resident ID, you have to produce a passport and an ID other than a driver's license. It's a challenge, honestly.
