Is Northcross Mall (Anderson Lane) being torn down completely? It looks like only part of it is being demolished.

The original layout of the mall will not exist in any form. The area that was Bealls dept store is now Chaparral Ice (a larger facility than the original). Also at that end is the Gallery of Salons, Wallpapers to go (original) guitar Center (original) and Go Dance studio (new and improved). Wallpaper/Guitar/Norris all have interior AND exterior entrances. Chaparral Ice, Gallery, Go Dance all have interior only entrances. In that interior section a new improved version of the Recording Studio is planned also. There are also several exterior only storefronts surrounding this section of the building currently trying to lease. There will really not be a true "mall" feel to it anymore.
This section will connect via a walkway/drive thru to the NEW Walmart. As I understand it the area where the Gallery, Sports Authority, Dance Studio, Food Court, Pipe World, Ice rink, (Luby's and Theater for you Austin natives) will all be demolished and built up as Walmart.
The Veranda Restaurant is still there and as far as I know has no plans to leave. It is on the North side where Hooters used to be.

All this said, I am sure there are things happening that I am not aware of. I tend to stay somewhat in the loop because I am employed at one of the business's in that mall!

Besides the skating rink (the new one doesn't compare, because although it is larger there is no food court/mall/other stuff surrounding it)... the old Northcross Mall was the "midnight movie" theater in town. The one that would have midnight showings of Rocky Horror (full participation), Heavy Metal, etc. Although even 15 years ago it was in decline...

For years before the theater shut down, it had to longest continuously running movie (Rocky Horror Picture Show) in the U.S. (world?). It ran every weekend for 15 years or something. (not-so-short history of Rocky Horror in Austin...kind of funny: Queerios! Austin Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast - History)
