We will be moving to Austin Summer of 2009. My dd will be 12 then and entering 7th grade for the 2009/2010 school year. She is in a great studio right now that is very NON-pressured. They teach the basics and do not compete. I prefer a studio where they are not all about different competitions.

She did start en pointe this year in ballet and adores her Jazz class as well.

I found the Butler Community classes Ballet Austin offers and have been in contact with them. This seems like a great fit for her talking to them. She can continue with her ballet and jazz. If she decides she wants to be more serious (as she has hinted quite a few times) then, after a year with Ballet Austin, I would consider letting her try out for The Academy.

So, can anyone tell me how you like the Community Classes? I love that you can get a card and try out different classes. That seems really neat. Heck, I may end up taking some fitness stuff!

Oh, and we'll be living out in Meridian. Is that a crazy haul or not bad? I've looked at the map and it doesn't seem bad... but I'm a small town girl (WAY small town girl) so it's hard for me to judge!

Thanks for any info, I do appreciate it!

Bueller.... Bueller....

No one, eh?

Bummer, I was hoping someone had taken some classes there. And I just reread my stuff... I'm obviously confused. She can take Ballet lessons at the Ballet School, but community ballet classes are not until age 13. She can do Jazz with the class card though.

Ugh. Not sure at she will be at the level to commit to the ballet school... guess we'll see. I'll go talk to them this summer...

I'm in Williamson County and some of the moms in our moms group were having this discussion. Not about Ballet Austin, but companies/schools that would be great for a kid who is very serious about Dance. They named one in Pflugerville and many said that the best schools for dance would be in Austin proper so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I think you are making an excellent choice. My kid is only 5 and isn't that serious about ballet so I only have her in a local in-town school.
