There's hardly a neighborhood around here that doesn't have a community pool at least. And whether or not you live near the lake (actually lakes), it's incredibly close to get to several of them.

Some of the most miserably uncomfortable summer weather I've ever experienced has been in NYC during those +100 degree days with uber-high humidity. The city reeks of B.O. and garbage, the subway stations are like descensions into hell, and people are cranky and miserable. Just brutal.

The summers are longer and hotter here but like another poster mentioned, you figure out how to get through it alive. It's definitely drier. Plus, things here are designed with hot weather in mind, just like up north they are well prepared for winter storms.

As a life-long complainer of heat, I surprised myself by running outside 3 days a weeks all summer, usually between 6-7 pm. At first I thought I would die, but once I modified my clothing, made sure I was hydrated, and paid attention to what my body was telling me, I did fine.

No comparison in my book.

NY/NJ/CT have brutal humidity, to the point where sometimes you can't even step outside for 5 minutes without feeling like you need another shower.. I loved this past summer in Austin. HOT, HOT, HOT, but DRY, DRY, DRY.

Pictures Las Vegas, only about 10-15 degrees cooler.

I grew up in the NYC area. NY area summers are like being in a sauna. TX summers are like being in a broiler. It's hotter and dryer, and unrelentingly long.

Aren't saunas typically dry? Using your analogy, NYC summers are like living in a steam bath while Austin is like a sauna (or a broiler, since those are typically hotter than saunas!).

Imagine the hottest most unbearable week of the year in NY - it's like that from May until late October in Austin - seriously.

But - you go walking or jogging early in the morning. You go swimming, you go out at night - you stay indoors during the heat of the day.
