I've lived here my entire life and I first heard the term in the past 10 years.

That's because it's a term started by transplants whose idea of Texas was developed from watching Dallas.

My thought was that it was a term started by Texans in response to transplants who thought that we had to dress up formal for all sorts of things that we don't have to do that for, just so they'd get the idea that Ropers ARE formal if we decide they are.

I can remember the days (don't know if it still happens now, haven't checked in a while) when the line outside of Jeffreys waiting for a table would have folks in full formal attire standing in line right next to folks in jeans and cowboy boots.

wow, I can't believe that anyone would consider a bedazzled western shirt and boots chic.

Well, there are things that folks wear in many places that they consider chic that I can't believe they would, but when I'm there, I try to go with the flow and understand that what I consider chic they might find unbelievable. Because, after all, I'm in THEIR home and good manners (and a certain sense of adventure) requires that I do so.

When in Rome is an old saying for a reason.
