Just wondered if anyone reading this forum knows of any plans Austin has for St. Patricks Day?
I am 100% Irish and love going out and celebrating this day. I would love to show my children a parade if possible....
Thanks
T.

I know RunTex will be sponsoring a run that morning and there will be lots of activities for the kids afterwards. Check it out here:

I know Austin had a St. Pat's Day parade last year but I haven't heard about one this year. Maybe it's because that day falls during the SXSW festival.

Of course, all the Irish pubs in town (Mother Egan's, etc) will be having big celebrations but you may not want to take your kids there.

thanks so much for replying. The idea is to bring the kids to the parade during the day so that they are exhausted in the evening and go to bed -then recruit a babysitter so that we can go to the pub!
It's only in the planning section now, still a couple of weeks to go yet!.

It's a good excuse to socialize & do something different one day of the year. Did you know that the parades and celebrations are so much bigger here in America than in Ireland itself.

Fado's is good but Dog & Duck is less of a scene. It is crazy at St Patty's though. They fence off the parking lot and have a stage for live music there. Usually you have to park about 5 blocks away and walk.

Yeah, South Side Chicago probably ranking the highest in that catagory!! It's bigger than Christmas to them!! About Fado's, It's a chain but I went to the one in Chicago and it had a good old-world pub feel to it and they do a true "Guiness Pour" which means you'll have to wait a bit. Don't know how the one in Austin is but just give me an excuse to tip a pint, mate, and I'll meet you there!!
