There is excellent food in both Santa Fe and ABQ- absolutely.

I actually lived in Santa Fe for a while and am very familiar with St. John's College since my partner is a retired professor (Duke, UNC, Stanford) and I worked at a major research university for 14 years as an academic researcher. St. John's is ok but does not offer the community nearly the sort of activities available in Austin from UT.

And yes, New Mexico is brown most of the year. And a very poor state with limited resources.
I do hear you can ski though!

Definitely agreed - good food.
It should be noted that if you live in Albuquerque - you do not live in Santa Fe. Not a far drive but I wouldn't move to ABQ because you like Santa Fe. That would be similar to moving to San Antonio because you like Austin.

Default Abq

Austin good and bad:

BBQ
Live music
Hill Country with nice scenic views
Weather.....HOT as hell in Summer 100 plus with at least 40-100% humidity

ABQ

More laid back than Austin...the natural beuaty of the place will do that to you.
Outdoors
