My family wants to relocate from Mississippi to the Texas hill country. I am a school counselor, my husband is a physical therapy assistant and my sons are 12 (in 7th grade) and 7 (in 1st grade). We are looking for a small town with a high school swim team and band, good schools, and a short commute to work. Any suggestions?

Where would work be? In the small town, or in Austin or San Antonio?

I'm looking at school districts. There are currently openings in Wimberly, Dripping Springs, and Canyon Lake.

I think all three of those would be good choices. Canyon Lake is more towards San Antonio, if that even matters at all.

Lake Travis ISD is worth looking at. I can't speak to job openings but the district is growing, the high school has a very good swim team (boys 3rd in state 4A in 2008). Several year round swim club programs in the area too. I have lived in this district for a long time and my 3 kids started school here. Two are still in the district.

Thank you for the suggestion. Lake Travis has an opening for a guidance counselor. I just submitted an application. Wish me luck!

Default Canyon Lake

What do you know about the schools at Canyon Lake?
