What a crock! I signed up for the 2 year price lock guarantee. I hope I'm safe from extra fees for the next 18 months so that I can source another provider. Just concerned that the phone company is going to follow suit. I don't think I will surpass 40GB per month, but I have been used to all you can eat internet service for the past 10 years...so it will be a mental thing for me.

That's why it's necessary to let Time Warner and the city know that the consumers will not accept such price structures. It's one thing to limit the people who are abusing the service, but to severely cripple the delivery of content because it directly competes with your products; that's downright wrong. I do hope that people understand that Time Warner has spun this issue into better quality of service. These are lies used to drag the customer along and make them feel good.

Can anyone post what the tiers are? I'm one of the top 10%'ers, so I need to know how much I'm gonna get hit for...

I really don't know how much we use, because our cable company here is Cox Communications and it's unlimited. And it's fast. I don't really have anything to compare to, since I've used Cox since cable modems were available to me back in 1998 or 1999, but when my father visits from Minnesota (he has a cable modem with Comcast) he always comments at how much faster ours is.

That being said, we pay $51.90/mo for our service, so that pricing seems reasonable to me. I know you can pay for faster service, but I really don't feel we need it, because ours is blazing (we had a T1 where I used to work and ours doesn't seem much slower than that).

Of course, I don't like the idea in principle and I also have no clue how much we use on an average month.

I'm installing NetMeter right now and apparently it will monitor usage and tell you when you're approaching your limit if you have tiered service.

If you have a single computer on the network, monitoring bandwidth usage is pretty straightforward. Introduction of a couple gaming consoles and other PCs requires the use of custom router software to track every byte that travels through the external pipe.

I don't really know a lot about this stuff, so maybe you could help me out.

We have two computers and 2 gaming consoles that connect to the internet.

Is this NetMeter thing I just installed going to only monitor MY computer usage and not take into account my hubby's computer or the Wii and Xbox 360?

Thanks!
