I want to rent an apt. However, I do have a criminal history, 2 non- violent, felonies one 11 yrs. ago, the other is 18 years back. They are consequences of drug use and poor judgement. I have been to a couple of complexes however their policy excludes anybody with any felony. I realize they have a right to this.

I am into recovery now, with over 5 years of clean time. During this time, I earned 2 degrees and am accepted into a graduate program at UT. I do have good credit, solid references, a honorabley discharged veteran, and worked part time my last two years at college. I very much defy the stereotype of my past.

Does anyone know of any apt. complexes willing to work with this wreckage of the past, or any apt. locator or realtor who might be able to assist me? I am currently in Austin until Friday

Congratulations for turning your life around. I think you have a couple of options - 1) craigslist - you may find an owner who is sympathetic and willing to overlook your past. 2) Check with some of those apartment locator type companies and see if they have any recommendations. 3) Realtors don't often handle complexes - more like houses or condos, but check with them anyway and see if they can give you some advice.

Excellent suggestions and I too add my congratulations for the turnaround.

One suggestion I would add is checking with your local veteran's administrator. My son often has some unique problems and sometimes the representative at the veteran's office in our county has given him some good guidance. It's probably worth a phone call.

Good luck and keep up the good work!!
