I regret to inform you that your fellow Californians have already bought up the hill country immediately west of downtown with equity pulled out of the pre-2006 west coast real estate market, as a result it will cost about 500K to 1mil per acre depending on proximity to downtown. If you have abundant equity to bring with you as previous Californians have, it shouldn't be an issue.

There is no way you are going to find 5 acres within 10 minutes of Whole Foods, north or central. Trust me, if it was there, I would have bought it a LONG time ago!

I do know of one place, almost downtown, that is almost that large, but it's never been on the market, and I doubt it ever will be, and if it is, you're going to have to be Michael Dell or Lance Armstrong to afford it.

What this means is that you have two conflicting priorities here. What's most important to you, and what do you want to do with your five acres?

Now, an hour outside of town isn't necessary. The realtor may have been wrong there, depending on your budget. What is your budget and I can point you in some directions.

Good luck !

I hope you can find something that you're as pleased with as my brother is with his 5 acres near San Marcos (a rural subdivision where every lot is at least 5 acres). Granted, that's a whole lot farther away than you're looking for, but there's no way he could've found that much house and yard close to Austin for the price.

I'd recommend looking at places off 1826, on the way to the Salt Lick, in southwest Austin/ Driftwood community. Unless you have about 5 million dollars burning a hole in your pocket.

I know of several parcels of land that would fit the bill. What is the intended use and what is your price range.

Within 10 minutes of Whole Foods (either one)? 5 acres?

Boy, I've been on the MLS and craigslist all the last week looking for something similar for a California client (though they want a house on theirs). You thinking Leander? That's more than ten minutes, but that's the closest I can imagine to the Whole Foods North that would be likely to have something of that size available.

I use austinhomelistings.com. It has a map and you can filter on 5 acre+ properties.

I have periodically seen 5 acres or so come up in westlake.

there is this one 803 Westlake DR at $5M, but is 7.83 acres

If you are willing to go east, there is 5007 baker st for 850K - 6.59 acres
