Public?

McCallum has AISD Fine Arts Academy, somewhat greater emphasis on visual art and music than performance.
Austin Independent School District : Schools

Doesn't RRISD have one? Maybe at McNeil?

I thought that there was a newer private or charter school for performing arts but I can't find it.

Without a doubt the very best program in the area is the Theater Focus Program at St. Stephen's

AISD has exactly what I'm looking for, but I guess you have to live in their boundries. I actually live in Hutto. I know HISD doesn't have one. So I'm resigned to a public one. Any suggestions? My daughter is interested in voice, and theater.

Do the school districts there have reciprocal transfer agreements? I know that one of the other posters on the forum sends his daughter to Westlake HS in Eanes and they live within AISD boundaries. Is this type of thing possible for you?

Crockett High School had the best Theater Arts program in AISD in the 80's/90's. Not sure if it is the "official" Theater Arts magnet like Science Magnet @ LBJ or Fine Arts Magnet @ McCallum.

SOME school districts allow out of district kids to enroll. I know Eanes does this because it raises their WADA (weighted average daily attendance) - which reduces their Chapter 41 expense. But they limit participation in UIL activities (such as football) because they apparently want to reduce the likelihood that a star athlete transfers to Westlake HS for sports.

So it's possible then that even if cabolissa's daughter were able to transfer to another district that she could not participate in extracurricular voice or theater activities? That's too bad. I think both the student and the school lose out on that one. Being Texas though, I do understand your football example.

The RRISD Fine Arts magnet is Westwood.

Some of us on this board have said it a lot: pick the schools based on your kids' needs/talents/goals, etc. Hutto High may have a fantastic theater arts program and music program, but you'll definately want to find out.

Just for example (b/c I do know about LISD): Both Leander High School and Vista Ridge in LISD have really great ones--LISD doesn't have a fine arts or performing arts magnet. But LISD does value the arts. From kinder through fifth, kids take art, music and theater arts every year. Every LISD school (elementary, middle & high school) has a fine arts dept. with its own full-time art, music and theater teachers. Middle & high schools also have dance depts. with their own full-time dance teacher/teachers and dance studios. We picked our daughter's high school based on the dance program.

I'm sure most of the districts in central texas have similar programs.

I can't find it right now, I'll keep looking but Hutto sent out a flyer that mentions them participating in inter district transfers and has all the rules listed so I'll keep searching.
