SARAH RANSOM: 1913-2009

Sarah Ransom, the crusty old bartender and owner of the Dry Creek Cafe beer joint at 4812 Mount Bonnell Road, died Thursday night at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. She would have been 96 next Thursday.

Meanest ol' bartender in Austin, deat at 95 (http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/04/18/0418sarah.html - broken link)

She was a genuine character. Around 8 years ago I took an out of town architect there on a tour of special Austin locations to help him understand how unique it was. There was a photo of a very attractive young lady on the wall. The architect asked Sarah if that was her in the photo when she was younger. Sarah was quite old and wrinkled by then. She didn't ever answer his question but she did tell him he was a smart ass SOB and was no longer welcome in her bar, and threw him out. Another guy traveling with us asked if he could take her photograph, she cussed him out and threw him out too.

Oh please don't say that. It was sad enough when Don died. Speaking of Ginny's...I will be trying my luck at Chicken Sh*t Bingo the last Sunday in May!! Woo Hoo--can't wait to be back in Austin, even if it is only for 4 days.
