Hi all,

I recently moved to Austin for a job from Canada and am wondering if there's any sort of community here in Austin. Not that I have any interest in limiting my social circle based on nationality, but would be helpful to meet/chat to some fellow canucks to pick some brains and get advice about transitional stuff (residency, taxes etc...) over a beer.

I've recently arrived in Austin so drop a line if you have any interest in meeting a new immigrant!

You might want to try Canadians in Austin, a non-profit group that meets up at the Chapparal Ice Center. The group's website is down, but might want to contact the ice rink for more information.

Also, there is a Canadians in Austin myspace page (which while stale) has individual contact information.

I found an older thread with 2 Canadians on it (one of whom) seems very active on City-Data, so they probably could point you even more in the right direction.

Good luck!

Farmejoe,

Here's a place where you'll be sure to get your questions answered, mentioned by Addie Broyles in the Statesman:

Quote:
On Friday, Canada will celebrate its 144th birthday, and Canadian expatriates and Canadaphiles will be enjoying Labatt Blue beer and French fries smothered in cheese curds and brown gravy at Canadians in Austin's 10th annual Canada Day party at the Paradise Cafe, 401 E. Sixth St.
Have fun!
