I'd like to take a trip down filmography lane to "discover what texas is all about" and "what's Austin all about". I mean fictional movies that have the feeling of TX, whatever that means to you guys.

There must be some standouts here. Of course I bet there's a few westerns ("No Country For Old Men" comes to mind, though I'm not sure exactly where it's shot). Probably some surprising movies as well. Anyone have some suggestions? Or maybe also, notable movies that have been filmed in local Austin locations. (It's great fun to drive around LA where so many cop films are placed for example.. a strange sense of deja vu occurs!)

There's probably a list out there somewhere too that someone has blogged about, I'll have to do some googling for that, maybe you guys have a bookmark or two?

Not that this movie 'feels' like Texas...but 'Dazed and Confused' was shot on location in Austin back in the 90's and has many of the usual hangouts in the background.

I thought Man of the House w/Tommy Lee Jones captured Austin pretty well.

"Slacker" is the Austin movie that I had to rent since so many people reference it here in conversation.

Waiting for Guffman: Waiting for Guffman (1996)

Even though it is set in Lousiana or Mississippi (can't remember which), it's filmed in Lockhart and does have that small-Texas town vibe. At least as close as you can get in a comedy mockumentary.
