Hello, I'm planning to open a restaurant in the Austin/Round Rock/Cedar Park area. One of my ideas is to open a restaurant/cafe specializing in hotdogs/sausages. I'm pretty new to Austin and would like to know whether Austinians love hotdogs or they are very health conscientious. I've been to Round Rock doughnuts and Pluckers and they are very packed all the time. I've talked to several people (mostly in downtown) and they are into healthy organic food and not into those junky food . Any comment?

Well, I am from Chicago, therefore, I love Chicago hot dogs.

Not many places serving them, that is for sure. Shady Grove has a really good 'Bad Dog' on the menu...ummmm ummmm.

If I can find a good Chicago hot dog (a la Portillo's), I'm there. A Portillo's miraculously opened near me in SoCal (Buena Park), and even though it's about 75 minutes away, we have eaten there an embarrassing number of times.

Not just hot dogs, but sausages of all kinds that are great to grill. I would think Texas would be cool with sausages, since there is a history of eating things that are not necessarily "good" for you (BBQ, chili, TexMex, etc.)

I see polish hotdog carts and sausages all over the place! Texans apparently love 'em.

To the OP, you should offer a veggie dog.

On the sausage front...I am not a fan of the Texas sausages. I love Italian sausage, bratwurst, etc. but the taste of the sausages here are just really weird. I can't put my finger on it.

Orion, if they opened a Portillo's here I would be there in a heartbeat as well!
