I've been happy with Chase. And they have more locations in NW Austin than I know what to do with. But they aren't really anything special - just another huge bank.

As far as convenience, Chase is almost like Starbucks. They're everywhere you turn--in the N/NW area at least. Their rates stink though!!! Despicable actually!

I've heard Velocity has good rates, but not as many locations.

Given the huge mess the monster-mega banks have gotten this country into, I'd stick with credit unions. You might try University Federal Credit Union, Velocity, or United Heritage (as mentioned earlier).

I second University Federal Credit Union, if you can qualify. We've been members for 30+ years, and they've been unfailing wonderful in good times and bad. They don't have a location outside every door, but they're pretty much all over town, and they rock.

Our other account is with Germania Credit Union - we try very hard NOT to use banks after occasional accounts with them over the years - always regret giving banks versus credit unions another try.

I third UFCU, their customer service is amazingly friendly, they're rock solid financially and relatively cheap. True, they don't have a zillion ATMs, but I use the ones in grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. for free.

A+ FCU is good and they have locations in Austin north, central, south; San Marcos, and I think Round Rock.

Banks are terrible. JMO.
