We are looking at Austin as a possible relocation option from CA. My husband is a software engineer, so it shouldn't be hard for him to find a good job there. But I have a degree in bioinformatics, and would be looking at either research institutes that do some research in the field, or biotech companies. Does anyone have an idea what kinds of options someone in this field has in Austin? I wasn't able to find too many companies with a web search, but was hoping someone who lived there could give me an opinion.
Another area we are looking at is Raleigh, and I know that there are a lot of biotech companies there. But I have heard that Austin is a nicer place to live in general - more liberal, laid-back, good schools, etc.

Our biotech is weak, I cant think of any known companies. Here is a story from the austin business journal.

San Antonio has most of the bio tech firms while Austin has the puter jobs it sound like your husband would need.

Unfortunately, Texas is a bit weak on biotech (with the exception of Houston, cited in the above mentioned article, where it's mostly research). But there's no harm in him looking...
