Looking at a move to the Austin area next year, probably to the north burbs. We are a family that fishes, and while we can afford lakefront, what would you consider to be the best town to have fishing options?

Thanks all, enjoy reading your input on the area.

Hmmm....actually, almost anywhere. One of the most popular fishing lakes isn't Central, but is Lake Buchanan. I know people that like to fish at Granger as well. I don't know too many who fish Ladybird Lake Maybe some parts of Lake Austin would be good for fishing but someone else may have better knowledge.

Lake Austin is one of the best Bass lake in Texas. You will find allot of places to go fishing. There beautiful clean clear water in most lakes in Central Texas. We just got allot of rain this year and the lakes are filling up fast. It is sure going to be a great year for the. You can be at the coast fishing in less than 3 hours to if you like that. Here is a video I shoot out at lake Travis just west of Austin. The lake was very low at the time but is full now.

Lake Travis is known for producing a good quantity of largemouth, Guadalupe, and Kentucky spotted bass. There are a few smallmouth in the lake too. It has white bass, crappie, and of course various sunfish. There are a few striped bass in the lake. And quite a few catfish (channel, blue, and yellow). The bass are plentiful but not necessarily big. The water is usually clear, relatively cool, and the lake is deep.

I have fished twice with Allen Christensen, the guide out of Lakeway. He could tell you anything you want to know about Lake Travis.

Buchanan is known for striped bass. It is wider and shallower than Travis.

Default Thanks for the info.

Everything I've read seems to indicate good fishing in the area which is a prerequisite for my family. The videos were awesome and when we come down for a look see this summer I will see about contacting the guide you mentioned.
