Ended up getting the flu (or food poisoning from Brick Oven)...and haven't been able to respond until now...

Anyway, thanks for all your posts here...that really helps me decide. I was looking at Memphis as well....but I hear from these forums Austin has it "hands down" over Memphis...

THANK YOU again to all of you.....that kinda seals my decision. And I'll take a peek at something other than Pebble Creek.

Also, roommates are out of the question since I have a 7 year old pooch.....wish I could, though >smile<

What do you do in education? Teachers make more than $30,000 here.

There are a lot of dog people in the city...I am sure that you could find some that would not mind a dog....or is it that the dog would mind the roommate ?

Just a quick endorsement of living here on the cheap. I've lived on $18,000 for the past six years as a grad student. It can be done easily if you watch yourself. A couple things you may want to do with apartment hunting is check www.apartmentratings.com and the Travis County Sheriff's department web page (or maybe it is Austin city police...) where they have crime stats for most of the apartment complexes in town.

right on! I will go and check further with all these suggestions in mind. The realtor said that if I were to be close to Rundberg that I probably would take some flack for being over there....sooooo knowing that i can get into the $650 range and be ok...i'll check into it.

seems like 30K goes a longer way here than in other parts of the country.

THANKS ALL
Mgrayce

mgrayce14....if you are open to living not super close to downtown (15 minutes away), consider checking out the Bridgehead Apartment Condos at 360/2222. Their rents are very reasonable and they take dogs. My mother in law rented a 1BR there on a short term lease for about $625 a month, and that was with a penalty for only a 3 month lease. I am sure it would have been cheaper with a year lease.

It's a very quiet complex if my senior citizen mother in law could live there with absolutely no complaints! It's a bit of an older complex, nothing special, but pretty well maintained and not a bad drive into downtown.

Hope this helps and good luck!!!!

Oh my heavens, yes, and even less. If he or she can't, the money is being spent way too foolishly.

To help you in chosing an apartment, take a look at this link.

http://www.apartmentreviews.net/ratings/tx-austin.htm

You might get a better feel for which apartments and area of town would be best for you. I agree with the previous poster in that you might want to chose somewhere else other than Pepple Creek.

Smile Ok>>>>ok////no more Pebble Creek

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments....I'll definitely check elsewhere and bump up my rental affordability.

Looks like my I'll be able to save a ton..

Can't believe it since California is soooo outrageous that $30K doesn't even touch rental rates....tolls alone out there were costing me $300 a month. (gotta love the 241)

LOVED CALIFORNIA but the cost of living forced me to move onward....

If they don't, the bottoms of shoes work very well for limiting their activities. Just shake the shoes out before putting them on if you seem to have an infestation.

I have lived in this area of Texas for over 40 <ahem> years and have had only one get in an apartment or house with me. He stung me and I squished him. No more problem.
