This might sound like a bit of a stupid question, but I figured I should ask anyways.

I'm planning on going down to Austin to scope out the area and figure out if it's a city I can see myself living in. What are some things I should be taking into consideration besides the vibe I get from the city?

Where can you afford to live? Downtown and anyplace near it is pretty expensive.

Where will you work? You will want to minimize the commute.

Heat- it is hot. Definitely come when it is hot
Cold - it can get cold in the winter. Ices up once every few years and can get down to 40 or so a few times a year. But stays in the 50's during the winter

Museums and fine art -doesnt exist
Very little fine dining

------------

Outdoors - boating, fishing, biking, hiking, rock climbing, rowing (some of the best rowing in the country), sailing, kayaking etc. Lots of land for team sports.

Mid range restaurants and bars are tremendous per capita

------------------
Whether you like austin depends on what you like to do.

See it for yourself without any preconceptions...or subjective imput from forum members......what they say or don't say has no merit on whether you end up liking Austin...
