Next time you go, try Shell's Seafood and Pasta:
shell's port aransas - Google Maps
My favorite place in Port A. You have to get there early, as they have a very small seating capacity and the line gets long. It looks like a nothing place on the outside but it was a great find, imo.

That was one place I really wanted to try but we just ran out of time. They are right across the street from the Holiday Inn. It did look tiny so I figured it would be tough to find a place to sit. Wonder if you can get it to go?

I'm not sure. We've never asked for a to go order. We try to get there early, by 5 pm IIRC. That's way early for us to have supper, but it might be a good time for small children.

If you get a sun awning system it has to be quite sturdy with a good support system and sand anchors in order to stand up to the strong breeze that is usually on the beach.

Our Spring and Summer are going to be busy so looks like we'll be heading out towards the end of the Summer. Should we be thinking about reserving our hotel/etc now or do we still have some planning time? I had a rough time last time b/c so many places were booked through the Summer but can't remember when I started looking.

Yes, Tx gulf coast is not known for outstanding beaches, with exception to SPI...Galveston beach quality vs say ex. Myrtle Beach very diff... than again it's gulf vs atlantic not apples to apples comparision. But sure is nice to walk the beach, swim etc...
