I am moving to Austin in the beginning of August. I have a nine year old daughter. She is starting 4th grade. I found a web site that said the school year for elementary school starts on the 25th of August. Is this correct? Can some one give me the correct information if this is wrong? Thanks!

Which school district? I think the school year is posted on the district web sites. The 25th sounds right though.

I am planning on moving to N/NW Austin. But either date sounds works for me. As long as it is at the end of August I am good. Thanks!

Does this mean you found work down here or are you just going to throw caution to the wind and leave the oppressively gray PNW.

I am staying with family friends while I look for work. They have a room and can help me with the city as they have lived here for a very long time. My daughter is staying with my parents in California while this occurs.

That sounds right.

A couple of years ago, the state mandated that (most of) the public schools cannot start earlier than the last Monday of August. Inevitably, that is usually the day they start.

As you know, you'll need to register your child in the district you'll be living in. There are numerous districts that cover Austin. If you are in the North/Northwest, in addition to AISD, Leander, Round Rock, and Pflugerville may cover your area.

AISD- New student registration begins August 10-14 8:30-3:30, except that Wednesday 8-6

Austin Independent School District : Student Registration (http://www.austinisd.org/academics/parentsinfo/registration/ - broken link)

Pflugerville ISD- registration begins earlier, August 3.

Pflugerville Independent School District :: Home

Round Rock ISD- may register at a different date and you'll need to check the school.

Round Rock ISD : Registration

Leander- registration June 23-25

Leander Independent School District

All those schools districts begin elementary classes on the 25th of August except Leander (24th). Please check for accuracy
