Yes, the amazing thing is that the country managed to hold together -- through the war for independence and the squabbles over the Constitution, and despite the efforts of demogogic politicians to wreck the Union in the mid-19th century; and despite the voices still today of traitorous secessionists. True patriots rescued the Union from destruction again and again. May it continue to be so.
