Anyone lived in both that could compare the two?

What is the IT job market like?

My company does have an office there near the corner of 360 and 2222. Our families are all South (Kyle and Seguin). What are some areas (Zip Codes) to look at homes $200k and under that would be a decent commute to work and not too bad to go see the family on the weekends?

TIA!

Do schools matter to you?

Yes, would prefer to be in a good school district. We don't have any right now but will in the next few years.

In that price range, you may want to check out homes along the 620 corridor, west of 183. Some of the neighborhoods would be Anderson Mill, Anderson Mill West, Lakeline Ranch...

The schools are some of the best in Round Rock ISD and Leander ISD and the commute wouldn't be too bad: 620 to 2222.

Otherwise, you may have to look closer to Kyle for homes under 200,000.

Oops, I meant Lakeline "Oaks," not "Ranch." I did a search by neighborhood on Austinhomesearch.com for homes 200k and under and there were 51 homes in Anderson Mill and Anderson Mill Ranch (many were "pending"). But only 3 in Lakeline Oaks.

Good luck!

You can find homes for that amount in 78749 SW Austin that would be accessible to both work and family locations.

Austin and Dallas are very similar. When I was just recently in Dallas I was struck by how Dallas just seemed like an overgrown Austin.

Rents are more reasonable in Dallas.

Austin's real estate is grossly inflated. Drivers here are as crazy as those in Downtown Dallas.

Austin is noisier (college!).

Yep, Austin is trying hard to catch up.
