Looking for any gay or gay friendly Dentists/Doctors in the Austin area. Left mine in Houston and feel more comfortable talking about gay issues especially with my MD. Any around?

Have you tried the pink pages? I think they have them here.

If you click on "Social Groups" in your settings - there's a list of groups you can join, one of them is for Gays and Lesbians - I'm sure if you post your question there you will get the answer you're looking for. Hope that helps.

I'm curious, isn't this a new form of prejudice? Gays who only do business with gays. How is that any different then whites who only do business with whites?

What I am personally wondering is... when do you find the time to bring up gay issues with your dentist? Most of the time I spend there involves having a hygienist stick metal instruments in my mouth.

Yeah, but this is like preferring a male doctor versus a female doctor depending on issues related to your gender. There are simply some things you're not comfortable discussing with certain people.

I can understand that in regard to a doctor. But a dentist? And the whole "Pink pages" thing, seems like it encourages excluding people who are different from you.

I kind of see what you're saying. I don't think any business who advertises in the pink pages is excluding anyone from doing business with them because someone is not gay/lesbian. If it was the other way around, then I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

The consumer can choose whom he/she chooses to do business with based on their needs. This is how some make a fortune in niche markets.

Pink Pages also include gay-friendly professionals who are not necessarily gay themselves. It doesn't exclude people from advertising due to their sexuality.

It's called targeted advertising. If you're a doctor who is comfortable with LGBT individuals and know a lot about their issues, then why not advertise to that community? And if you're a LGBT individual, why not look for a doctor who is comfortable with your community?

Dentist is probably a stretch, but the relationship with your general physician should be a very open and honest one. Finding one you can have that relationship with is not being prejudice. It's being smart.
