what is most interesting is that the areas blocked from sidewalks are probably some of the most dangerous areas to ride a bike. It is kinda of a catch 22 for those that prefer to ride on the sidewalks.

Default arrested for riding bicycle on the sidewalk

"cycle courier Jen Sigman was arrested (not just ticketed, but arrested) for biking on the sidewalk. This shouldn't surprise you..."

not the only one either. i know someone else who was also arrested for this.

about sidewalks: in my neighborhood, well over half of the residents park in their driveway in such a way that BLOCKS the sidewalk completely. so, i should just go around them every single time, weaving in and out, back and forth, from street to sidewalk?

about the hike and bike trail: "on your left/right" doesn't work anymore because people have their iPods stuck in their ears.

about streets and Michael Bluejay: he suggests "taking the lane" in instances when the lane isn't wide enough for car+bike. this is infuriating to motorists, but necessary sometimes. (he may be a stone-cold freak, but he's right about this.)

.
I run there all the time. It's rare that a bicyclist will alert a runner. A few will but for the most part i don't think they know "on your left" is a welcome courtesy.

Use it as needed! It still works and gives cyclists a good name and you won't scare the hell out of me when you pass at a 100MPH or come to a skidding stop right benind me.

I saw a mangled bike on Parmer this morning. Hit by a car. Hope whoever it was lives.

Nope. A couple was hit riding a tandem bicycle. The man is in good condition the woman is in critical condition. It shut down 2 of the 3 lanes during commute.
