Husband just contacted Lakeside at La Frontera in Round Rock to enquire re a short term rental of a studio (August 14-October 5) They just quoted him $1800 per month.

CRAZY!!!!

Anyone know of any Round Rock area apartments that rent for a reasonable rate? For that amount of money, my husband could enter into a lease of a 2800 sq ft. home which we do not want to do until October 5 when I will be joining him. Why do they feel they can stick it to people that way? I'm so angry.

Is this a fully furnished or unfurnished place? Sounds like they are quoting him short term housing rates which are only slightly lower than paying for a hotel.

7 weeks works out to about $250 a week. If furnished its not bad compared to hotel rates, but expensive compared to normal rental rates.

For comparison, when we relocated down, the company was paying for a fully furnished two bedroom apartment and I think it was running them about $3,000 per month.

You can get a studio at Extended Stay for about $1350 per month, plus taxes.

Yeah. We were looking for a place for my husband and our cats while I pack our house and drive out later with our dogs. Just slimy. Really, for that amount of money, we could just rent our permanent house. What is the point?

If those are the apartments I'm thinking of, they look more like lofts than an actual apartment building.

You should look back through previous threads. There was just one last week about someone looking for a short term rental. You can PM him to see how he found it.

Those are probably the most expensive apartments in Round Rock because they're right next to a shopping center and proclaim it's "urban living". Most apartment complexes that I came across didn't want to do anything shorter than a 6 month lease. As someone else stated, for that short term of a rental, an Extended Stay might be a good option and they do allow pets.

It isnt that slimy if you think about it from their point of view. If you are there for one month, then it probably will be vacant the following month. You may pay 1800 for a month, but they may only be getting 900 for two months.

For housing it is all about utilization. For short term housing it might be as low as 50% so they have to charge at least twice as much if not more because they have to do more repairs etc.

Gonna throw in the towel. It IS IN FACTs cheaper to stay for 7 weeks at a rate of $1800 per month in a studio where my husband can cook his own meals and drive his own car than to stay in hotel, with meals and rental cars on the company dime. I'm a happy capitalist but it is clear to me that the market will do whatever it can to stick it to business. I guess I need to just not care that it is costing my husband's company a fortune to house him while we re-locate from out of state.

Best part is that he can take our kitties and I don't have to worry about a hotel maid letting them escape a hotel room. Problem solved. GRRRRR!!!!!

FWIW, I used Gables Corporate Accomodations for a smiliar period of time to rent an unfurnished 2BR/2BA apartment. It was around 1400 a month in RR down the street from where you were looking.
