I remember most of those things except for Charles Whitman. I didn't live here then. The drive-ins were Showtown (2 screens) near Cameron Rd, and the Chief, at Koenig and Lamar. There was also the Burnet Drive-in in the 6500 block of Burnet Rd. I suppose everyone is aware of that one though, because the storage place has preserved its memory with the style of their sign.I think the radio station referred to was KNOW. I won an album from them in the 70s. Burnet Rd ended at 183, though. It was 1325 after that intersection.

Re: the Mustang Drive-in. If there was one, believe it was a drive-in restaurant, not a theater. Although, I remember it being called The Stallion, and it was located on North Lamar near the Chief.

I remember the first Half Price Books in Austin (my husband worked there) and the first Thundercloud Subs, both on Lavaca.

I remember the original Nighthawk Restaurant.

What pro sport franchises were trying to move into town? No major sports like NBA, NFL, or MLB right?

The white building in the back is National Western Life Insurance - I used to work there. The building was built in '76 I believe (the company was downtown before that), so it was brand new when this was taken. I can't believe that Red Lobster has been there that long!
