I seem to recall that back in the 1990's or thereabouts there was a big financial mismanagement scandal at TABC and the agency was purged and overseen by state authorities from outside TABC for some period of time. It seems that TABC is one of those problem-prone agencies. I would imagine that under the capable leadership of the former ag commissioner whom the citizens of Texas just can't quit electing governor, the agency has been emboldened to act in the manner that we have recently seen. There will have to be a sufficient number of cases in which they get slapped down by the courts and held to account for some salutary change to occur in the present situation. The outcome of the Fort Worth abuse was a good thing, but apparently the thugs haven't been sufficiently chastised as yet.

Yes, they need to stick to licensing and leave local law enforcement up to the community accountable professionals.
