Wow...
that's a wealth of information.... thanks so much
Sushi & txhorselady you're the best.
The Wildfire was great. On labor day they had an open event
and there must have been a few hundred trailers in the parking lot.
Great setting, well established & organized... makes you want to live nearby.

Horselady I went to see the Sundance in Liberty hill but, to my surprise,
there's no sign of anything "equestrian" there. Not one barn, shed, stables etc..
heck not even fences or trailers anywhere. What's equestrian in it other than streets names ?
Is it all tucked and hidden from view ?
We' ve been to the Horseman subdivision in Stephenville, which- even though not appealing location&looks-wise - has almost everything one needs (stables on property, arena, trails, community compost etc).
That's what I had in mind , so I was confused when I saw sundance because it looks like any other urban subdivision except for a handful of yards more between houses.

Did I go to the wrong place?
Please let me know if you have any info.

Thanks again for the help

I'm happy to have found all of you in Central Texas, esp. north of Austin. This is the first time I have participated like this. (Am I blogging or chatting? Will you all get my message?)

I have 4 horses (Quarter and Appendix Qtr horses) boarded near the Bell County Expo in Belton, which is along IH35, just a few exits farther north from Salado. There are often exciting open horse events at the Expo. Go to their website calendar, and from there, go to the websites of the organizations who have/have had their events at the Expo.

I had a home-schooled teenager coming every day w/ her mom to ride, but her dad's new job took them to Ky. The next woman who started to share board with me is moving to Dallas :-( Right now I am riding alone. Trail rides are my favorite, but I stupidly sold my trailer :-( .

I'm betting that you went into Sundance Estates, not Sundance Ranch. Sundance Estates (off CR 200) is basically one-acre lots; Sundance Ranch has 3-6 (with at least one 10 acre) lots with houses, most of which have barns or other horse facilities. There's not a central barn, but there's a trail system through the community and there's a very active equestrian community there.

I realize that a few months have passed, but if anyone interested in team roping or barrel racing is having a hard time meeting other riders or ropers in the area, I'd recommend that you go to the Wildfire Ranch arena for an event, or possibly even go to the NRS Wildfire Ranch store and start asking around. There's bound to be a few local people at some of the team ropings at that arena. It would be a start. I'm new to Austin, and I want to start riding again. I'm going to have to take my own advice. Admittedly, I'm looking for ropers that live closer to the south Austin area. I think that I'll have to visit feed stores in Dripping Springs to find out about team ropings in that area. Cerainly Llano has a few ropers, so I may have to visit Llano also.
