I am possibly planning a move to Austin in the near future. I noticed Austin is rated number six on the most dog friendly cities in the US this year! Looking at Craigslist and other apartment searches, I noticed most apartments do allow dogs which is great to hear. Further, I was wondering if there is a one or two dog limit to these apartments like there are around my area.

Thanks!

I dont think there is a "blanket" response for your specific question. Austin is VERY dog friendly, however your best bet is to just call prospective properties and disclose!

We have had no problems with our two large breed dogs, save the ubiquitous non-refundable pet deposit, which seems to be a local standard when renting/leasing.

On a side note, when we walk our dogs, it seems like every other person wants to pet them and engage us... It's very nice!

Good luck!

One thing I have noticed is that many of the bars/restaurants which have outside patios allow dogs in the outside area. At Freddie's Place they even had a doggy snack dispenser.

From what I have seen, there seems to be a pet limit at most apartment complexes (usually 2) and sometimes a pet weight restriction and breed restriction. And, yes, the pet fees, which can be pretty high. So, be sure to check the place out carefully as to their individual criteria. I'm sure you can find one that fits your needs. Good luck!

I have two dogs and a friend of mine also has two dogs. I figured the chances of us being able to live together were slim but I thought I'd ask.

Any other input that anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

You might have more luck renting a house, with 4 dogs. (I know someone who just managed to do that.) Depending on your price range and where you want to live, of course.

I was surprised to hear from a resident but at least one of the new downtown highrises allows dogs under 55 lbs. Not so bad a situation really when you consider the hike and bike trail is just a few blocks away.

With four dogs, I'd definitely try to rent a house. I would go crazy with 4 dogs in an apartment, no matter how big it was! lol! What area of town do you want to live in?

I have read that this apt. complex is welcoming of dogs as large as a Great Dane. Not sure if that's still true.
Vaughn Management Company: Lease With Confidence (http://www.vaughnmgmt.com/Bridgehead/Bridgehead.htm - broken link)
They advertise as a pet friendly community with a 2 pet limit, though. You might call them and ask.
