My husband goes to meeting in Austin and this time we are going to tag along with him, just to get out of town a bit. I will have my 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter with me and Daddy will be at his meetings most of the time. We will be going tomorrow evening through Saturday afternoon.

What are some good things to do and see around Austin with young kids? Places to eat?

Central Market on N. Lamar has an awesome playground -- the little cafe has really good food too. My 3 year old says it's her most favorite playground ever.

Another place that we like to go is Zilker Park. I don't know that would be such a good recommendation with the ACL music festival this weekend though. Maybe save that one for next time or go prior to Friday.

I second Austin Children's Museum. They are at the best age to appreciate it. Austin Children's Museum ::

I would stay away from Zilker cause of the large festival going on this weekend. Not sure where you will be but there is the Austin steam Train then also the Cedar Rock train. Austin is a full size train and the Cedar Rock is a small kiddo train both my boys loved when we went on either one. I have heard that the rescue zoo here is also pretty good.

Last I heard Deep Eddy was closed due to the drought. Don't know if that's changed since we've had some rain recently -- so I would call before going to check.

If you go to the Childrens Museum, I think you get a discount on meals @ Spaghetti Warehouse just around the corner...

And if the weather is good, the zoo could be fun. It is nothing fancy by any means, but for your kids ages I think it could be fun (and cheap).
