I agree with centralaustinite. It will help for a Federal Job, however, I really have my doubts that it will help you do the job you obtain

Project Management Professional Certification. Basically giving long names to things we already know about + Applying a one size fits all process to projects that don't fit the PMP mold.

is there a company that is having difficulty filling project management positions with well-qualified, experienced, tested and proven personnel?

Now this was years ago mind you...but my husband was unemployed and did the PMP cert. At the time, he did it self study and took the exam and passed pretty quickly. Used prior work experience to get his cert finalized. Started getting more hits on Monster once PMP was listed. I don't think it hurts.
