Very true. There's plenty of stuff to do in Houston. Although, I would say it's tougher to find than in Austin. In Austin, most of the night life is in downtown or SoCo. In Houston, it's spread all throughout the city. That is one thing that I would say that I like about Austin's night life better than Houston's is that most of the nightlife in a condensed one area in Austin. We don't have an area in Houston that has the kind of concentration of bars, clubs, music venues, theaters, etc. that you can find in downtown Austin.

Yes, and it's this way in Houston and Dallas as well.
The idea of these being significantly cheaper than Austin is just not correct.
I don't know about Dallas, but the nice neighborhoods in 610 Loop seem to be just as expensive as downtown Austin and the surrounding areas.

I might advise you wait and get licensed as a CPA in California and then transfer it to TX through reciprocity to the TX board of accountancy- that will probably be easier. Otherwise, I would call the TX board of accountancy and check on the education/work experience requirements, etc to make sure you can easily get licensed here.

I am in the middle of getting reciprocity in TX now from another state and it's quite a hassle.

Otherwise, best of luck to you. You should be able to contact several of the CPA firms in Austin and get some attention. Maxwell, Locke, and Ritter is one of the most highly respected accounting firms. Most firms tend to hire locals though so you may want to get an Austin cell number before you start sending out your resume...

There are many, many, many people moving from LA to TX. Just one small detail to keep in mind - jobs here are not abundant and overflowing. It's not going to be like LA.

Las Vegas was the traditional place where those aced out of blue-collar employment in LA fled to. Now that LV is essentially shut down, along with the other traditional Cal relo refuges, like Phoenix and the PNW, what place is left for them to go but Texas?

You can't fault them, as there is simply no place left even close to solvent AND desirable but Texas.....outside of T, all you have is Utah, the Dakotas, and Nebraska, obviously not palatable relocation destinations......

Look for Austin's population to grow hugely the next 3-5 years, as ALL these people from all these struggling states come here and Tex in general.......

The nation is swimming in a flood, and Texas is Noah's ark.....
