Since the interstate is a zoo why don't they run loop 1 to 1604 in San Antonio? I think people in Bexar county driver better than they do in AUstin once you get into Austin their driving is ****ed up.

Would be easier to use 281, which some people do, just needs to be wider in a few places and get rid of some of the lights.

Hmmm. San Antonio has been famous, for as long as I've been driving (45 years now), for its crazy drivers. Austin, until the relatively recent flood of newly arriving inhabitants, not so much.

Other than the driving habits of the respective cities, why do we need to run Loop 1 (around Austin) all the way down to San Antonio?

Once you get out of Austin, the drive is easy to San Antonio on I-35. If you want to avoid the parking lot that is 35 and you're close to MoPac anyway, just take MoPac to Ben White to 35 and then it's smooth sailing.

Every time I visit San Antonio I see a drunk driver, including one really scary one during mid-day, so I don't believe your blanket statement about San Antonio vs. Austin's driving skills.

1. They don't want to pave over the aquifer and give people easier means to build their houses right on top of our drinking water supply and ruin a 60 miles stretch of practically virgin hill country. 2. They don't want the Travis county tax base to move to Hays because they paved the way there for them (getting hung with your own rope). 3. What do driving habits and the length of Loop 1 have to do with each other?

We always take 281. It really isn't any shorter, but at least we keep moving.

I read somewhere that SA has the highest percentage of DUI's per capita.....and that there are more drunk drivers per capita than any other large city.....

Maybe its cause the weather is so nice down there, people are just out more, hanging out, and drinking, but, then again, Wisconsin is cold and deals with the winters by hanging inside of bars getting loaded, so maybe its NOT the weather.

Of course, those who stereotype would say that Hispanics can't drive, and that would be very un PC, so we won't go there. However, I've driven in Miami, which has the worst drivers in the world ouside of the Italians and French, so maybe it IS that volatile mix of Latin Blood and a case of Tecate with a Tequila chaser....

I'm so glad you didn't go there.

Some would say that people who have no life and stay on their computers all day don't get much practice driving and are crappy drivers. I mean, I wouldn't say that, but, well, some people would say that.

There's simply no point. The drive between Austin and SA isn't bad at all.

What they need to do is finish the fly-overs at the 71/35 intersection. Aside from the typical traffic in each City, that intersection is the only major inconvenience.

I have a theory about Austin drivers and the rain. A lot of people who normally bike or moped around most of the year are quite inexperienced at driving an automobile, when forced to do so, it is usually due to incliment weather, and the town turns into a parking lot as a result. Just a theory.
